Ortiz to Start at 1B in Philly
The Boston Red Sox will switch up the right side of the field for tonights game following Tuesdays 5-0 loss in Philadelphia, shifting David Ortiz to first base and Adrian Gonzalez to right field. Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee threw all nine innings yesterday, conceding just two hits on the night to Darnell McDonald and Marco Scutaro.
Ortiz has 10 appearances in total at first base over the past two seasons. Gonzalez has played right field just once during his seven years in the big leagues. It will be good for us offensively, but damn, Im going to have to play second, first and right, second baseman Dustin Pedroia joked with reporters. Ive got small legs. Thats a lot of ground to cover.
Gonzalez leads the American League with a .357 batting average and 71 RBIs. He also has 16 home runs. Ortiz is currently hitting .311 with 17 homers and 48 RBIs.
