Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar was hit on the hand by Phillies right-hander Kyle Kendrick on Friday at Rogers Centre.

Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar left Friday’s game against Philadelphia in the first inning after being hit on the left hand by a pitch.

Escobar was hit by Phillies right-hander Kyle Kendrick leading off the bottom of the first. After being examined by the trainer he walked off the field shaking his head.

The team later said Escobar had an X-ray and cat scan, both of which were negative. Escobar will be day to day with a swollen hand.

Aaron Hill pinch ran for Escobar and stayed in the game at second base with John McDonald moving from second to shortstop in the top of the second.

Escobar, who recently signed a $10-million US, two-year contract extension, came in hitting .289 with nine home runs and 29 RBIs.
