The Success of Irish Golfers in 2011
Golf in Ireland is filled with great history and tradition. 2011 marked a very successful season for Irish professional golfers. Many Irish golfers won multiple golf championships and placed high in several major tournaments. Enlarge this imageGeneral manager Alex Anthopoulos continues to stockpile bullpen arms with the reported news Tuesday night that the Toronto Blue Jays have signed right-handed reliever Francisco Cordero.
The deal, first reported by Fox Sports, is a one-year pact worth $4.5-million (U.S.).
The Blue Jays have not yet confirmed the signing, although Anthoupoulos said earlier on Tuesday that he was still exploring ways in which he could strengthen the bullpen.
The signing is being confirmed by Cordero’s representatives at Reynolds Sports.
Cordero, 36, saved 37 games for the Cincinnati Reds this past season, with a 2.45 ERA, reaching the 30-save plateau for the fifth consecutive season.
It is anticipated that with the Blue Jays Cordero will set up for closer Sergio Santos, who Toronto obtained in a trade from the Chicago White Sox in December.
Tim takes positives
Tim Sherwood took plenty of positives despite our Spurs XI’s 3-2 friendly loss against Leyton Orient on Tuesday.
Simon Dawkins and Souleymane Coulibaly hit the target as we took the lead, fell behind 2-1 and then levelled at 2-2 against a more experienced Orient side before the visitors fought back again to secure their victory in the rain at Spurs Lodge.
Dawkins opened the scoring in the 34th minute when he tapped home from close range after good work from Massimo Luongo, skipper on the day.
Orient levelled within three minutes and then went ahead 10 minutes into the second half.
Coulibaly finished well from a fine pass from Dawkins, striking high into the net, to make it 2-2 in the 74th minute.
But once again the goalscoring joy was short-lived as the O’s fired home what turned out to be the winner just two minutes later.
Goalkeeper Oscar Jansson kept the team within touching distance with a number of fine saves at 3-2 before Coulibaly, Jake Nicholson and John Bostock all went close to rescuing a draw, Bostock lashing just wide with the last kick of the game.
“I thought we were excellent at times and it was a typically cavalier performance that we try to produce,” reflected Tim, our Technical Co-Ordinator.
“Its all about producing players and not winning football matches at this level.
I think Massimo was back to his best, Simon Dawkins did well and Jake Nicholson at right-back was excellent.
“The Orient players had a lot of experience, so it was good for the lads to play against them.
Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Postgame Coaches’ Quotes
Clemson Head Coach Brad Brownell
Overall thoughts: “I’m really happy for our guys. We’ve had a couple days of tough practice after not playing as well as we wanted to in Miami. I thought we played really well for 35, 36 minutes and certainly missed a few free throws and we had a few things go against us; they had some shots go in at the end to make it scary, but I thought our guys played really well. I thought we handled the power outage, halftime, and all the strangeness of the game very well.”
On Andre Young’s performance: “To be honest, I thought [Andre] would have had a more games like this; maybe not with 29 points, but today when he shot it well from three.
